Mark Henderson

Mark Henderson is the man in charge of leading the Jump Core Project.   Mark is obsessed with control and power. He desires admiration and wants to dictate what others do. He feels that his ideas are the best and he knows the path to lead humanity down for greatness. Most of this is him being a narcissistic asshole.   Using his political and monetary powers, Mark has set the stage for the Jump Core project to be selected, getting him access to the greatest minds for his plans. Mark desires for the world to listen and follow him forward. To do this, he needs to have the power to push and sway the governing systems on earth to do what he wants. He would need control over all systems. He would need to be something greater than the usual enhanced human. He would need to be a super-powerful AI construct.   To make this happen he would need the greatest minds working together to build this system. Mind uploading has been forbidden for human testing as there are many unknown ethical and moral dilemmas surrounding the technology, that it itself is being developed.   Marks secret plans are to have Finian build the artificial framework for the different human biological systems, then use Brennan's created tech and processes for transferring his mind into the digital realm.   The Jump Core project is a bonus. If they do crack the key to FTL, then he could also use this to solidify his right to lead humanity into the future.   In the story, Mark lies to everyone to get them working on technology he plans to keep for himself. His plan is to get Brennan, Finian, and other scientists to create the technology that will allow him to upload his mind. He could then leverage himself with superhuman digital abilities. Once complete, he planned on destroying the technology and any means of re-creating it. He can be the only one. This would of course, require everyone on the station to die.   Mark's plans are found out by Finian. Finian is killed during an escape attempt but brought back using this mind upload technology by Brennan himself. Mark demands that Brennan upload his mind right after Finian's escape, threatening that if he does not he will kill everyone Brennan has ever cared about. Mark is uploaded, and he transfers himself off the station, then destroys is by causing containment to be lost.   While Finian is off in FTL flight and another star system, Mark starts his plan of resting planetary control for himself.
